Sheesham furniture: common questions
Is sheesham wood good for furniture?
Yes. Sheesham (Indian rosewood, Dalbergia sissoo) is a dense, strong hardwood with natural resistance to termites, which is why most solid wood beds, sofas and dining sets made in Jaipur and Jodhpur use it. It is heavier than engineered wood, can be re-polished, and lasts for decades if kept away from constant moisture and direct sunlight.
How can I tell solid sheesham from engineered wood in an online listing?
Read the material line, not the title. A solid wood listing says solid sheesham or solid wood for the frame. Words like engineered wood, MDF, HDMR, particle board or plywood mean board, not solid wood. A much lower weight and a very low price for the size are other signs. The MF Score gives a lower Wood honesty mark to listings that are vague about this.

What is the size difference between a king and a queen size bed in India?
In India a king size bed is usually made for a 72 x 78 inch mattress (6 x 6.5 feet) and a queen size bed for a 60 x 78 inch mattress (5 x 6.5 feet). The outer frame is several inches larger than the mattress, so check the full bed dimensions in the listing against your room before buying.
Why is the listed MRP so much higher than the price?
